US Asset Manager Enters Japan's Wealth Market

GoldenTree Asset Management, the US asset management firm,
has partnered with another US company's Asian investment management business to
tap Japan's wealth market. By leveraging the local strengths of GreensLedge Capital
Markets and its Japan-based affiliate GreensLedge Asia, GoldenTree will
strengthen its local presence and develop new business opportunities in the
country, it said. The US firm has been serving as asset manager for a number of private
investment funds in Japan since 2001. Greensledge Capital set up its Asia business in Tokyo in
September 2010 to provide advisory and placement services to Asian markets. It
was established in collaboration with Iku Nishino, who previously served as
head of fixed income sales in Japan for JP Morgan. GoldenTree Asset Management manages around $16 billion of
assets and operates out of offices in New York and London. GreensLedge is a US
broker-dealer and is represented in Asia by Greensledge Asia in Tokyo, where it
is a fully-licensed broker-dealer.
